**Update** The seller’s realtor called our realtor, offering a lower price and the March closing date. It kills me, but we can’t do it! So we countered back with the higher price but sticking to the (already a compromise) April closing date. I don’t think it will bring about resolution, but at least we know we’ve done everything we can to close the deal!

The we-didn’t-want-your-old-house-anyway, taking-our-earnest-money-and-going-home attitude won out…the sellers countered back with their preferred closing date (not fine, would cost us three months of rent), the contingency about getting a purchase agreement on their new house in the next week (ok, fine) and a new contingency about them being able to carry the deal through closing for the new house (not fine). Too many not fines.

We love the house. But the closing date plus contingency plus that awful closing date plus new contingency plus that closing date plus going over our top dollar amount to mitigate the closing date issue we’d hoped…..yeah we don’t love the house quite that much.

Ok, Marmot didn’t love the house quite that much. I’m still in love with the house, but we honestly don’t have the three thousand dollars (in addition to the $10k in down payment and earnest money) to spend on the rent that would make the closing date ok. Its just not ok! We tried to meet in the middle with the closing date, but no luck.

So I’m pouting. We’re still debating about going back in two weeks with a lower offer and their closing date. And I don’t know, selling a kidney for the rent money?
